Externally Illuminated

It’s important that your lighting choice complements your sign design, and where it will be positioned on your building. Angled, separate lights add a creative touch and can achieve a variety of effects, so our Design Team will advise where external illumination is the perfect choice; particularly for slim, narrow spaces, or to highlight Stand Off Lettering.

A wash of light over the whole face of your sign gives a clean, even look, so choose a Trough Light, mounted above or beneath, to flood the whole signage area with light. Finished with a long-lasting powder coated (paint) finish, you can select any RAL colour for the casing. We recommend energy efficient LEDs inside, which are more cost-effective in the long term.

Or add personality by choosing unique spotlights, up-lights or traditional swan neck lamps, to illuminate your sign from different angles or match the character of your building. We can fit a timer so your lighting is automatic. And don’t forget you can combine lighting options to give you additional impact – especially useful during those dreary winter months!

Externally Illuminated - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install a Trough Light myself?

We’d be happy to provide you with a ‘supply only’ quote if you’re considering fitting your own lights – for Trough Lights, just tell us which side you would like the power cable and how long the fixing brackets need to be. Or our team of highly skilled fitters can install across Cheshire and the North West if you’d prefer.

Will I need Planning Permission for an Illuminated Sign?

The short answer is ‘sometimes’ – it’s important you check with your Local Council first, rather than risk having to have it permanently switched off! ‘Ordinary’ signs don’t usually require consent, but it’s more commonly required if they’re illuminated, especially if you’re in a conservation area. We can provide you with detailed elevation drawings and technical information for your Planning Application if you need it.

How much is an illuminated sign?

Give us a call or fill in our quote request form. Usually the first step is creating a unique design – we don’t charge for initial drawings, as that’s ‘just part of the process’ for us. Your quote will then be based on the design as this allows us to consider material and component costs, as well as estimating the time required for installation. Or, if another designer has already done some drawings, we can quote from these too.

It’s an effective way to make you and your fleets safe, especially at night or in poor driving conditions.
